Whenever I speak to people in Hindley, they tell me the same thing: our roads, schools and healthcare services are already under pressure. That’s why I’m clear that infrastructure must come before new housing development.

What I Think

The proposed South Hindley housing development is a major concern for local people and you are right to ask questions.

If thousands of new homes are built, where are the extra GP appointments? Where are the school places? How will our roads cope with even more traffic?

I’m not against new homes, young people deserve the chance to stay local, build a life and raise a family in the communities they love. However, too often developments happen first and the infrastructure comes later – if it comes at all. That’s the wrong way round.

I’ve listened to local residents and I agree that communities should not be expected to carry the burden of growth without the investment needed to support it. That’s why I’m arguing for infrastructure first. If development is going to happen, it must work for local people and leave communities stronger than they were before.
